As a sporadic L Word viewer, I'll be the first to admit that it's become a wee dramatic over the past season or two, but I have to say that last night's season premiere kicked ass. Anti-choice ass, that is.
Kit, played by Pam Grier a.k.a. Jackie Brown, goes to a "clinic" to get an abortion and finds herself trapped in a "pregnancy crisis center." While it was pretty terrifying to see a depiction of what they put these poor women through, it was dope to see Grier go buck wild on their deceving asses. After all, she is Pam Grier.
I haven't been able to find a link to just that particular scene, but you can see the whole episode online.

For those looking for the scene, it starts about half way between the half way mark and 3/4's of the way through. No time counter on it unfortunately. :P
Do the writer of "The L Word" read blogs? Signs point to yes!
Oh, I know! It was the first time I ever watched the show, and as soon as I saw Kit and her boyfriend going into a place called "Loving Choices", I kind of knew what was up. I especially loved when she said to the doctor that she'd "abort his head from his body", HAH. Kickass, indeed.
I caught that last night and wondered if you guys had seen it.
I am not really a fan of The L Word. I started watching after Queer as Folk ended (Brian Kinny, *tear*) because I was curious to see the gay angled flipped for lesbians and I enjoyed some of the first season but it went downhill pretty quickly after that, especially season three.
After hating season three I wasn't going to watch anymore, I even cancled my Showtime but then my cable companies switched and I got an offer for HBO, Showtime and Starz for 5 bucks a month each for a year and I said WTF and got 'em. And since Dexter is now off of Sundays I'll watch The L Word until Rome comes on.
But it was a cool scene and I'm happy someone is addressing it. Maybe they're actually going for realiasm now but probalby not for long;)
While I didn't pick up on the sign as an indicator of the impending harrasment, the giftbox from the nurse set off claxons that I can still hear.
And I'm with Kit and Bette; let's firebomb their asses!
i know this isn't really the point, but why are they all topless in this photo?
Alternet has the scene at the "CPC" posted.
When my sister went to one of those places, they pretty much assume that everyone wants to abort. She went because her health-insurance was crappy and she wanted a free pregnancy test to confirm her pregnancy (with my now 14 year old niece) and to get some prenatal vitamins (discounted). It was horrible, even for a woman who expressed the sentiment that she wanted her child. They assumed she was lying or stupid. They showed her all these mangled photos of fetuses(i?), genitals that were deformed, the works. She said that it was one of the most scaring experiences of her life--so even for women who are going to get help with a safe and healthy pregnancy are treated like scum--stupid, unchristian scum. Bastards.
This is wonderful! I'm glad that somebody in television is finally destigmatizing abortion and showing people what those clinics really are.
